In looking at designs to post for my award winning design critique for the week, I was looking for something related to identity and branding. This example caught my attention with the use of the bright blue along with the black and white. The look is clean and crisp as well as a unique logo where the symbol can stand alone or be used with the text. This example was found in GD USA 2010 graphic design awards.

Came across this design in GD USA November/December 2010 issue. pg 111 in the section for Calendar design. Just thought it was worthy of sharing as an award winning design :)

This award winning design is a great example of branding. The simple leaf shape logo is used as an image on some packaging and as the cutouts in the design on others. The packaging comes in many colors yet still keeps the look of the brand consistent.  The use of a variety of shades of one color adds interest to each package. The overall design provides a modern yet natural feel. The design was done by Big Fish Design.

I chose this design for its creative use of imagery. The use of the three balls combined into one gives the design a clean and uncluttered look while still utilizing multiple sports images. Also the balance of thirds makes for an appealing presentaion and good use of white space for displaying the message. The additional layout focuses on specifics and uses additional images to tie in to the first picture design. (Yes I thought of you Ben when I saw this :) ) This design is an award winning design from the 2011 winners from GDUSA.

In looking for an Award Winning design example, I chose a magazine cover this time. I found it interesting how they used visual hierarchy by placing the images between the wheel spokes to give a preview of what stories were inside. The balance of images and the colors all combine together for a visually appealing effect.
